Men Shaving Products
Men shaving products can generally be broken into three different parts, pre, during and after-shave products. Prior to shaving there are several types of oils and washes one can employ to prepare the skin and the hair to be shaved, as well as the necessary shaving cream or soap to lubricate the skin for the blade. During the shave, one will be most concerned with the blade itself, be it an electric razor, a disposable razor or a straight razor. The best after shave products tend to include moisturizers to keep the skin from drying out and something to disinfect any possible nicks or cuts experienced during the shave. Shaving products for men are somewhat diverse and the right product will largely depend on the user.
When it comes to shaving products for men, a lesser known product is the pre-shave oil. These oils intend to open the pores in the skin which allows the hairs on the face to stand straighter and be cut closer to the skin for smoother shave. More commonly used are the shaving creams and shaving soaps. Shaving creams are used generally with a straight razor or a disposable razor, while the shaving soap is most commonly used with a straight razor. Generally speaking, electric razors do not require shaving cream. These products lubricate the skin on the face, which allows the blade to glide more gently across the skin. This allows for a closer shave with fewer nicks and cuts. The shaving soap is used with a mug and a brush. The soap is put at the bottom of the mug, and the brush is dipped in a little water before being swirled in the mug until receiving a generous lather. Many think this is the best for shaving as the brush applied the lather to the face in a way that stimulates the hairs, unclogging them from being stuck against one another and thereby allows for a smoother shave than merely applying regular shaving cream.
During the shave, the easiest way to shave is with an electric razor. One merely runs it against the wet skin, but this can be difficult for those with thick beards as it does not provide such a close shave. Disposable razors are the next closest shave while generally employing any number of blades but these blades will by nature become dull and must be replaced. The straight razor is known for providing possibly the closest shave, but the owner must continually sharpen the blade, usually against a leather strap called a strop, to ensure that it does not grow dull.
After shave products are intended to alleviate the pains experienced on the skin from the shaving process. These usually include a moisturizer as the shaving process can strip the skin of many of its natural oils. Most aftershaves will also include an antiseptic aspect that will disinfect the skin from any bacteria getting into any nicks or cuts experienced from the shave. A styptic stick may also be worth considering as it is a tool to stop the bleeding of a cut or nick on the skin.
There are many different men shaving products, the best one is depends on the man.
